From the Desk of the International President…

       Last week in Calgary AB at the annual Gyro International Convention, I was honoured to be elected president of our incredible organization for the 2026-2027 Gyro fiscal year.  I am truly humbled to have my name listed among the dozens of dedicated, hard-working Gyro International presidents who have come before me since Gyro was founded in 1912.  I am proud to say that I will be the fourth president of Gyro International from the Gyro Club of Edmonton, AB, my home club.       

      We had a fantastic time last week at a very well-organized and fun-filled convention in Calgary.  But we have a great deal of work to do over the coming year and into the future as well.  Gyro continues to evolve and we think it is critically important to our long-term survival as an organization that we are constantly striving for ways to improve what we can be.  We want to leave no stones unturned as we look for new and exciting ways to both make Gyro International relevant and vibrant in the 21st century, while at the same time honoring  (note the US spelling this time!) the traditions of our organization for over a century. 

    I would be foolish to have you believe that I have some magic wand to wave in the air to cure some of our problems.  But I am surrounded by a wealth of experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated individuals on both the Executive Council and in our network of individual clubs across Canada and the United States.  In my mind, the beauty of Gyro is that each club is free to operate its own group according to its own standards and guidelines, while at the same time respecting the constitution of Gyro International. 

    I am eagerly awaiting the challenge ahead of us, while not losing sight of the fact that at the end of the day, Gyros want to have fun and enjoy each other’s friendship and camaraderie while we do so.  I hope to continue to build on the relationships I have already established in ‘GyroWorld’, while getting to know as many more of you as possible over the coming year.
