From the Desk of the International President…

By the time you read this copy of the Gyroscope, it will be time to plan and pack up for the Gyro International Convention in Calgary in 2026. We had strong participation with many clubs represented at our International Convention aboard the Princess Line sailing to Alaska from Vancouver, BC this past June with approximately 144 Gyro’s and Gyrettes attending. Most noticeable on the weeklong cruise was the Alberni’s Club in their dress uniforms — they were everywhere! Not so noticeable was Our Convention Chief Organizer — Ted Ewanchuk—for without his hard work and detail driven Cruise Director ability, the convention would not have been a success.

It was nice for quite a few International Convention first timers to attend and experience the True Meaning of Gyro — we are a Fraternity of Friendship going beyond the meaning of a simple handshake. Evident was the chance to participate at many levels, and develop long lasting friendships, connect with others and share their lives with members from all different clubs throughout North America.

Not to beat a dead horse, but our membership numbers are skewed downward, thus the never-ending need for our members to engage and promote the Principles of Gyro in the recruitment of new faces. Currently the EC and Board of Governors are taking steps and making some changes to the marketing tools we currently employ, and with the help of our energetic Membership Committee, Social Media Committee and more, we hope to attract new members within each club.

September is approaching and proving to be a busy month schedule wise with quite a few District Conventions at which the Executive Council will attend and make installations. The EC and Board of Governors have been working to further PIP Dan Durbin and committee’s plan to implement and make the transition to Regional Directors and more taking hold in 2026. AS members Of Gyro, we owe it to ourselves to look at yourself and ask — Who initially invited you to join Gyro? Now it is time to reciprocate, get energized and return the favor — Invite a friend or two to attend the next meeting and let them find out why Gyro is a great organization to be a part of!

The ball is in your court — If you never ask a prospective friend to join — and the effort is easy — it will be the same answer as getting a NO! Remember our Betterment Fund can be utilized to attract New Candidates — Let’s Employ Our Tools inviting candidates of Strong character looking for a setting to socialize and have fun! I wish all members and potential new members the happiest journey through their Gyro Years!
